Vin Diesel brings us the latest science fiction action-packed thriller for the summer, Babylon A.D. based on Maurice G. Dantec’s novel, Babylon Babies. Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz who brought us Gothika, Babylon A.D. is set in the near future with Vin playing a mercenary who is charged with delivering a package from Eastern Europe to the United States in just six days.
The package turns out to be a young woman named Aurora played by Melanie Thierry who must get there and ostensibly save the world. Diesel plays Toorop and we also have Rebeka played by Michelle Yeoh as they set out to get Thierry safely to the U.S. and change the course of history.
There are a couple of problems with Toroop going to the United States, not the least of which, he’s considered a terrorist by the U.S. government and everyone’s out to get him and stop Aurora. It is rumored that parts of the film were cut and the theatrical release is only 93 minutes long. If you would like to read the full article, go over to Sci-Fi.

Are you interested in starting your own sci-fi collection? Or, have you just started doing so? If so, you are urged to take the time to examine proper care and storage. While a large number of sci-fi collectible items, including model kits and figurines, have the potential to increase in value, that final value will be impacted by the care received.
Before focusing on ways that collectors, such as yourself, can properly care for and store sci-fi collectibles, it is first important to touch on goals. Many science fiction collectors have a number of different reasons and purposes for starting a collection. These purposes may include a love or fan following of sci-fi movies, books, and television shows. On the other hand, there are many sci-fi collectors who are referred to as investors. These collectors invest in science fiction collectibles with the hopes of later reselling them for a profit. What type of sci-fi collector are you?
For many science fiction collectibles to retain their values, all collectibles that are new should be left in their original packages. Collectors are urged against removing these packages, especially just for the sole purpose of seeing what was purchased. Even those who collect for a love of this intriguing genre are encouraged to leave all sci-fi collectibles in their original packages. This is important, as many hobbyists later find their goals shifting towards profits.

August 21st, 2008 — Stargate Atlantis
By Kent Gibbons — Multichannel News, 8/20/2008 5:59:00 PM
Space drama Stargate Atlantis will conclude its run on Sci Fi Channel after the current, fifth season ends next January — but the network has greenlit a two-hour Atlantis movie to run after that and says the show will live on as a network franchise.
After airing on Sci Fi sometime next year, the untitled Atlantis movie will be sold as a home-video title by producer MGM, Sci Fi told Multichannel News on Wednesday.
MGM this year released two financially successful straight-to-DVD movies made after progenitor series Stargate SG-1 ended a 10-year run of first-run cable episodes on Sci Fi. MGM and the show producers are scheduled to make more in DVDs in future. A movie franchise is also envisioned for Stargate Atlantis.

August 8th, 2008 — Battlestar Galactica
SCI FI Channel announced that it will air a new Battlestar Galactica two-hour prequel movie, set to air in 2009 following the conclusion of the series.
Directed by star Edward James Olmos, the as-yet-untitled new film will be set before the events of the original Battlestar miniseries and will focus on Cylons: Number One, known as Cavil (Dean Stockwell),
resistance leader Sam T. Anders (Michael Trucco) and Chief Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas).

The film will be written by Jane Espenson and will begin shooting in Vancouver, Canada, at the end of the summer. After airing on SCI FI, it will be released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
The final 10 episodes of the fourth and last season of Battlestar Galactica will begin airing on SCI FI Channel in 2009.
