Will we ever see the web-slinging wonder underneath the bright Broadway lights? U2’s The Edge seems to think the Spider-Man musical could open in just a year, and he shares more details on its sound. In an interview with QThe Music , U2’s guitarist revealed all the details behind his hard work putting songs to Spidey’s adventures, with Bono and director Julie Taymor.

We’re not saying that new Joss Whedon show Dollhouse is going to be confusing or anything, but a recent interview with star Tahmoh Penikett suggests that attention may need to be paid, nonetheless.

Terminator 4, 5 , and 6 may or may not be timeless classics, but at least the original Terminator is being recognized for its enduring awesomeness by the National Film Registry. The Registry will protect Terminator and 25 other films, to protect them from the deterioration that otherwise strikes nitrate and acetate-based films.

Neal Asher’s latest novel, Shadow of the Scorpion , is an insane, sexy war story full of giant explosions on alien worlds. It’s also a well-plotted exploration of the way violence destroys everything, even memory.

We were intrigued to hear Pyr Books was publishing a “steampunk superhero” novel by George Mann, but the details turned out to be even cooler than that sounds. Plus you can read Mann’s fiction online. When we heard the words “steampunk superhero” used to describe Mann’s novel Ghosts Of Manhattan , we had to ask Pyr’s Lou Anders for more details

< In terms of SF comics, 2008 feels a bit… lacking, to be honest; there was nothing with the energy of King City or Wonton Soup , and a lot of the best books were final issues, instead of the start of something new (Collections and reprints-wise, it was a great year, however – I’d point you in the direction of Skyscrapers of the Midwest , The Babysitter and Jack Kirby’s OMAC , to begin with – but they weren’t really created this year…). It might just be a necessary lull; next year has new work from Paul Pope, Bryan Lee O’Malley, Brandon Graham, James Stokoe, et al, after all
