Welcome back!
A near-future tale of television ratings and nuclear-powered monsters, Frankenstein 1970 was spawned in the year 1958. It’s the story of how the great-grandson of Baron von Frankenstein has grown so poor by 1970 that he has to allow a TV crew from America to film at his castle. Lucky for monster-lovers, he’s using the money from the TV production to fund his final experiment: A reanimated creature powered by atomics! There are a ton of great scenes in Frankenstein’s ultra-modern lab, which is full of what 50s concept designers thought 70s tech would look like, but probably the best parts of the movie are where Frankenstein interacts with the TV crew.

Probably the weirdest Stephen King short story is “The Revelations Of Becka Paulson,” where a housewife shoots herself in the brain and then sticks a pencil in the bullet hole. Afterwards, she can hear Jesus talking to her

I praised Adam-Troy Castro’s space murder mystery Emissaries From The Dead a while back, for its intriguing setting, fascinating A.I. characters and unconventional supporting cast. Now you can judge for yourself: Harper Eos is offering Emissaries as a free e-book download.

I’m not going to say I told you so, but I totally told you so : The CW have scrapped plans for The Graysons , the Smallville -esque take on the early life of Dick Grayson (AKA Robin The Boy Wonder) because “the concept doesn’t fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise,” according to a statement from Warner Bros. Which translates as “this is a terrible idea, and destroys all our Dark Knight credibility.” We knew it was only a matter of time.

The last time the Democrats controlled the White House and both houses of Congress, Gillian Anderson wore pants. There were two Star Trek series at once, which promoted women and minorities and looked at the dark side of the Federation. Cyberpunk reigned supreme

Felicia Day, star of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, has Twittered that the mad scientist musical soundtrack is cheap online today. I just downloaded it and now I can’t stop singing the Bad Horse letters, as well as “Brand New Day.” I’m gonna shock the world and show Bad Horse! [via Amazon ]

While talking to the mighty Hercules, Kevin Sorbo, about his upcoming Illuminati movie and comic, we couldn’t help asking if he’d ever make another guest appearance as frozen-in-time 1969 secret agent, Guy Goddard, on our favorite superhero comedy The Middleman . Sorbo dropped not one but two giant bombs about our beloved show: he’d been in talks for a Goddard spin-off at one point, and the Middleman may be no more

Barack Obama’s election as America’s 44th President was a milestone in many, many ways – but did it really help The Dark Knight get closer to an Oscar win for Best Picture? We’re not convinced, but that’s what Entertainment Weekly is claiming, in one of the more unexpected examples of fallout from Tuesday’s election. In a post on the magazine’s “Oscar Watch” blog called “How Obama helps Batman,” EW writer Dave Karger puts forward the following theory: I thought the sequence involving the two ferries (in which a group of commuters and a group of convicts have the power to blow up each others’ boats but don’t) was a bit too reality-show-ish for my taste.

No, I’m not kidding: A recent ABC newscast focuses on how a commonly-used firefighters’ manual from FEMA has an entire chapter devoted to UFO preparedness. Hey, it’s a good idea to be ready for anything, right? If aliens crash-landed, there wouldn’t just be fires — there’d be mass panic.
